October 2001 - Matilda joins the family

It was early Autumn here in Portugal 2001, barely months after the terrible attacks of 9/11 when my good friend Alexandre mentioned to me that there was a nearby pet shop who had a dog for sale in their window very near our home. He told me Teresa would kill me if I bought her as we already had one dachshund, Peanut, who was challenging enough, but he told me and that was enough to send me there!

It was love at first site, I saw her and I believe she was bought instantly!

Of course when I brought her home, Teresa wanted me to return her... that lasted a short time, maybe an hour or two and then, naturally, she fell in love with her too.

Our late Peanut, pictured here, fell in love and they were together for almost 6 years before his untimely passing in 2007.

How we got here

This is a blog about a little dog with a soul unmeasurable by human measures who sadly, in human terms, has left us but is eternally with us and I hope by putting into words how she impacted and continues to touch our lives for almost 16 years that we were lucky to have her in physical form on this earth.

I write this at a time when my wife and myself are devastated at her loss, but also with a mission of spreading the message she had for us to the world and hoping it will be enjoyed by whom reads it and that maybe it can help you too with your life as Matilda helped us.

So hence commences Mighty Matilda the Miracle Dogs tale!
